What Makes This Puff Flower Granny Square Pattern Special

This design combines structural geometry with lush texture, anchoring a vibrant floral center inside a crisp, architectural border. We begin with a tight, rounded mustard center that mimics a real blossom, then blossom outward using plush puff stitches for the petals. Alternating rounds of dusty rose and sage green build a balanced color palette, while the final wide cream border squares off the circle, making seamless assembly a breeze. Accompanied by a clean color-coded crochet chart, this pattern bridges the gap between chart reading and written instructions.

Skill Level

💡 Designer Tip: Don’t fear the puff stitch! Keeping your working loop slightly elongated will prevent your petals from puckering and ensure a flat, even square.

Yarn Suggestions

To capture that crisp, heirloom look, choose a yarn with great stitch definition and minimal fuzz.

Brand / Line NameYarn WeightSkein YardageNotes
Lion Brand Re-Spun CottonWorsted (4)194 yds / 177 mGorgeous matte finish, highly sustainable.
Knit Picks DishieWorsted (4)190 yds / 174 mExcellent crisp stitch definition for puff flowers.

⚠️ Note: Avoid loosely spun single-ply roving yarns. They tend to split when working multiple loops together in a puff stitch.
